Wheatland Memorial Healthcare is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic providing primary healthcare to Wheatland County and the surrounding communities. With the closest secondary and tertiary care centers 60 to 100 miles away, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare has been working on expanding its services for the community to ensure that individuals do not have to travel more than a couple miles to get the care they need. With a physical therapy department, a podiatrist, an orthopedic surgeon and a mental health counselor available for consults; the addition of a CT Scanner, a mammography unit, a bone mineral density DXA scanner, teleradiology services and echocardiography now available for diagnostics; expanded lab services, telemedicine outreach chronic care services and a telepharmacy, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare can boast of more medical and auxiliary services offered within driving distance to the surrounding communities than most smaller primary healthcare facilities.
The Community Promise Fund is set aside by our Board of Trustees to help us meet our promise to the community to always be good stewards of our resources while continuing to meet the healthcare needs of our service area well into the future. Our objective with the Community Promise Fund is to allow the corpus to continue to grow while only using those funds necessary to help us meet the financial burdens of operating a healthcare facility in a frontier area such as the Upper Musselshell Valley. This fund will help us to ensure that your hometown hospital is able to continue to provide quality healthcare services to this area for along time to come.
Dedicated to providing quality healthcare, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare would like to continue to provide more and more services in the community and promises to always be there taking care of medical needs in Wheatland County.

Building Fund
Wheatland Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home was built in 1951 and has been around for more than half a century. Originally built as a hospital with a nursing home added in 1971 and a clinic added on in 1983, the hospital building has been changed over the years to its present state. Currently known as Wheatland Memorial Healthcare, it is a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital with an attached Rural Health Clinic.
With the increasing needs for ancillary medical services, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare has been hard pressed to keep up with changing building and life-safety codes and changing needs for physical space in the current building. But being the chief medical facility in a frontier area and wanting to keep up with the times and needs of the community, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare has been slowly but surely changing through several renovations.
In the hopes of continuing to fulfill the medical needs of the community, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare would like to eventually be able to provide local access to several specialty care services and continuum of care services. Researching the possibility of assisted living and other community needs, looking at expanding and eventually having a more updated hospital; Wheatland Memorial Healthcare is stepping in to the future of Wheatland County.
We have to continually plan for the future of healthcare, which is constantly changing. The current building will obviously need to be updated to meet these new challenges. It may also become evident that the future may require a new building to be able to continue providing quality healthcare close to home. This fund will help us prepare for the changes that will inevitably be in store for us.

Telemedicine Fund
Wheatland Memorial Healthcare has received grants over the past several years which have helped to establish a telemedicine program in Harlowton, Montana. When the only drug store in town went out of business, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare came up with an innovative, award winning solution to the problem through the Telepharmacy. Working with pharmacists at St Vincent Healthcare in Billings and a high tech drug dispensing system, certified pharmacy technicians at Wheatland Memorial Healthcare can provide usually faster than a regular pharmacy or can have prescriptions couriered to Harlowton the next day, saving individuals in the community from driving out of town. This is a luxury no other town in Montana can boast of!
With radiology services such as x-rays, CT scans, mammography, bone mineral density DXA scans and ultrasound now available, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare has Teleradiology services which allow radiology technicians to send x-rays/scans to radiologists anywhere in the world and have them read, with results back to the doctors at Wheatland Memorial Healthcare, usually within the hour.
With the well being of the community in mind and to bring tertiary urban services to Harlowton, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare has launched a Telemedicine Chronic Care Outreach program in the fall of 2006. The chronic care outreach program brings specialty education and self-management services to Harlowton for individuals who would otherwise have to travel to Billings or another large urban tertiary center to get that care. With the current targets being diabetes, hypertension and mental health, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare is now able to offer education and self-management classes in a brand new ‘Community Health Education Center’ in three new specialty fields right here in Harlowton!
Grants are short-lived and eventually run out. Wheatland Memorial Healthcare feels the need to be there for the community and to continue to ensure and increase access to quality healthcare! With telemedicine innovations and a new Telemedicine Studio on-site, Wheatland Memorial Healthcare is proud to announce the availability of one-on-one doctor consults via telemedicine, soon to be including cardiology consult services, one-on-one diabetes education, dietician consults and many more.
